The Barnabas Center
Sharing the hope of the Gospel through counseling
Barnabas means, “son of encouragement,” and it is the desire of the Barnabas Center to encourage people by coming alongside them, entering into their struggles, and walking with them toward freedom. The Barnabas Center is a non-profit, non-denominational, Christian counseling ministry. The center, through counseling, is committed to cultivating the hope of the gospel in the midst of struggle. They also offer many training opportunities for church leaders.
The staff at The Barnabas Center strives to care for each other in the same way they care for their clients. The team is grateful to continue to partner with The Barnabas Center- Charlotte, which helped to launch the center in Richmond in 2009.
Third at work: Third Church provided The Barnabas Center a gift in the middle of the pandemic that enabled the creation of a podcast. Third also hosts an annual The Barnabas Center’s Basic Training event. Third’s ongoing support and hospitality makes it possible for their staff to continue to serve the Richmond community.
God at work: The Barnabas Center offers Barnabas Training Groups to the Richmond community. Scriptures guide participants through these groups, enabling them to see how they are made in the image of God. As participants see these truths more deeply for themselves, it changes the conversations they have with others. Through the training groups, the staff has witnessed many people experience the love of God more deeply, allowing them to step out of places of pain, fear, and shame, and to love others more freely.
Act now through prayer
Pray for strength, wisdom, and faith for Barnabas Center counselors as they offer care to their clients; for participants in the Barnabas Training groups to grow in their relationship with God and others; for God to provide new donor gifts that will go towards hiring more counselors and offer sliding scale rates to more new clients.
