Like Son, Like Us
For Meditation (Elisabeth Hayes)
We are thrilled to welcome Rev. Dr. Tharwat Wahba as our guest preacher this Sunday. Tharwat served for many years as the Professor of Missions and Vice President of the Evangelical Theological Seminary in Cairo, where many of us who have visited Cairo have stayed. He has invested in countless pastors in the Presbyterian Church throughout Egypt, and recently Tharwat joined Frontier Fellowship as their Middle East Mission Coordinator. The Christian church in Egypt is so strategically and uniquely placed to reach the Middle East, and Tharwat is now focused on catalyzing the resources of the Egyptian church and mobilizing Egyptians to bring the Gospel to the Middle East.
Tharwat will be preaching from John 20:19-23 and reflecting on God's call on the Son and Jesus' corresponding call for us. It will be a blessing for us to hear Tharwat draw from his experience in Egypt and to learn about how God is calling and sending his people in other parts of the world.
John 20:19-23
19 On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” 20 After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.
21 Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” 22 And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.”
