God’s Generosity

For Meditation

As we continue in our Taste and See sermon series it’s hard not to see that not only does God provide all we need, but his provision is also generous and it’s through God’s generous provision that we can find hope, life, and joy.

Food is one of the ways that we can remember and celebrate that God is incredibly generous. Even as we sit down around a small meal, it comes to us by God’s gracious and generous hand. Even more than providing physical sustenance for us, he also generously provides for us spiritually. In giving us grace through faith we have salvation in Jesus and through him we are given hope to press on, abundant life now as well as eternal life, and as we wait for God to make all things new, we have joy.

Do we take God’s generosity for granted? Do we even recognize it? The world we live in and the lives we live often make it hard to remember and even see God’s generosity, but as we need to eat each day, God calls us back to see his great generosity.

Isaiah 25:6–9

6On this mountain the Lord Almighty will prepare
a feast of rich food for all peoples,
a banquet of aged wine—
the best of meats and the finest of wines.
7On this mountain he will destroy
the shroud that enfolds all peoples,
the sheet that covers all nations;
8he will swallow up death forever.
The Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears
from all faces;
he will remove his people’s disgrace
from all the earth.
The Lord has spoken.

9 In that day they will say,

“Surely this is our God;
we trusted in him, and he saved us.
This is the Lord, we trusted in him;
let us rejoice and be glad in his salvation.”

Isaiah 55:1–3

1 “Come, all you who are thirsty,
come to the waters;
and you who have no money,
come, buy and eat!
Come, buy wine and milk
without money and without cost.
2 Why spend money on what is not bread,
and your labor on what does not satisfy?
Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good,
and you will delight in the richest of fare.
3 Give ear and come to me;
listen, that you may live.
I will make an everlasting covenant with you,
my faithful love promised to David.
