It's been a long tradition at Third to take the month of February to all come together during the Sunday 10:00 a.m. hour and learn about a subject or theme that is relevant to our community and world. This year, we are expanding this tradition to a 7-week "Jan/Feb Term" beginning on Jan 16 and running through the end of February.
Our theme this year is "Life Together." We'll be using Dietrich Bonhoeffer's book Life Together as a loose curriculum for this special all-church class. Given the physical and social isolation we've all been through the last couple years and the uncertainties ahead, it's a key moment to focus on the importance of Christian community for the life of discipleship.
The Jan/Feb term will have three components:
Weekly Sunday Teaching: The Sunday class itself will be at 10:00 a.m. beginning Jan 23 in the Fellowship Hall. Each week will include teaching on the contents of a chapter from Bonhoeffer's book, while also drawing from Scripture, theology, and personal stories. Pastor Corey will teach the first week, followed by other teachers from our church.
Personal Reading: We encourage you to read Bonhoeffer's book too! Buy a copy online and read along with us!
Small Groups: We have an excellent group study guide available, and we encourage people to form small book discussion groups that meet during the week (in person or on zoom) for the duration of the class. Download the guide here.
We hope and pray that God will use these 7 weeks to not only deepen our understanding of Christian community but also our experience of it.
**We are not livestreaming the class, but audio recordings of the class are posted here.
