Tell us about your primary responsibilities at Third: Along with Brooke Wright, I help shepherd our community of musicians, and collaborate with the worship planning team to shape worship services which reflect Third’s worship values. To quote Isaac Wardell “the better paradigm is that the church is a banquet hall in which worship leaders are the hosts.” We believe our unique voice is people singing.

What are your favorite books? Off the top of my head my current favorite is Accidental Saints - Finding God in All the Wrong People by Nadia Bolz-Weber. Other authors: Henri Nouwen, C.S. Lewis, Phillip Yancey, John Ortberg, Larry Crabb. I also love historical war fiction (Jeff Shaara), classic sci-fi and the occasional western novel.

What is your favorite thing to do in Richmond: Visit Belle Isle.

Tell us about your family and hobbies. God has blessed me with an amazing wife, Nancy, and three children, all young adults living in the region. I love creating. I feel closest to God and at peace when I’m working with wood, composing and recording music, or mentoring a younger musician. I also really love riding my 35 year-old Schwinn bicycle on the back roads of Hanover County.

Why are you excited to be a part of Third? This is an incredible season to be on the worship staff at Third. For the first time in my years of serving churches, I can fully embrace the heritage of historic  worship while folding in fresh expressions that each new generation of creatives brings to the church. The icing on the cake for me is writing new music unique to our worshipping community.
