Third's Outreach in El Salvador October 9-14
Hola Amigos!
In a couple of days our Third Church team will depart Richmond International Airport for El Salvador. We’ll be in the country from October 9th-14th and will be working with our mission partner Sports Outreach Institute. The trip will have a variety of foci, including sports ministry, public health, discipleship training, and education. Luckily, our team members possess a wide range of skills and talents, and the work we'll do has been custom tailored for us by our El Salvador indigenous leader - Humberto Alferez Marenco. Our efforts will center around sports ministry, feeding programs, medical support, entrepreneurial training, vocational and public health training, and E.S.L. classes. We look forward to using these talents to glorify God and serving the people of El Salvador.
The team has been meeting for the last several months in order to prepare for the trip. These meetings have included discussion of a mission workbook, learning about Central American customs, brushing up on our español, and forming bonds with other team members.
In addition, the team has been collecting the following donations to take down to El Salvador (there's still time for you to contribute to the effort!):
- new or gently used soccer balls and basketballs
- Clothing of all sizes·
- Small toys (especially dolls or match box cars/trucks)·
- Bubbles·
- Jump ropes·
- Coloring books (in Spanish or English),
- crayons, markers, or any school supplies·
- Rubber bands or string bracelets
Donations can be dropped off at 500 Forest Ave before 4:30 pm on Wednesday, or bring them to Connect3!
We're also excited to report that the team raised over $1000 dollars to purchase a new roof for an El Salvadorian family. It’ll be exciting to get to meet our new friends and share the love of Christ.
Please watch for updates from the field, and be praying for the team and the people of El Salvador!
