2017 Holy Week at Third Church

PALM SUNDAY: A LENTEN VESPERS
Feat: Lux Aeterna by Morten Lauridsen
Sunday, April 9, 4:00 p.m., Sanctuary
This Lenten Vespers service will include some liturgy, a homily, and a presentation of the musical work of Morten Lauridsen, Lux Aeterna, by the combined choirs of Third Church and River Road Presbyterian. This special piece of music is a meditative piece referencing procedures and characteristics from sacred music of the high Renaissance, especially the music of Palestrina and Josquin Desprez.
This work has been described as a serene and peaceful composition that penetrates the soul of the listener and performer. "May the light and peace of Christ surround and comfort you as you listen."
MAUNDY THURSDAY:
Thursday, April 13, 7:00 p.m., Sanctuary
Join us for this special worship service in the style of Tenebrae, with gradual extinguishing of candles, accompanied by music, readings, and the sacrament of Communion.
Childcare provided for kindergarten and younger.
GOOD FRIDAY: Join us for one of many opportunities to reflect on Christ's suffering this Good Friday.
Friday, April 14
Good Friday Service: 12:00 p.m., Sanctuary
A brief worship service in the Sanctuary followed by a Lenten lunch at 12:30 p.m. ($5) in the Fellowship Hall. Childcare available for kindergarten and younger during the worship service (12:00 - 12:30 p.m.).
Journey to the Cross: 1:00 - 7:00 p.m., begins in the Steeple Corridor
A personal experience of Jesus’ final hours. A multi-sensory journey where you will be guided by scripture and artistic presentations to the cross. Learn more about this special experience here.
Christian Arabic Church Evening Devotion & Prayer Service: 7:00 p.m., Fellowship Hall
Our brothers and sisters from the Christian Arabic Church have invited us to join in their service at the end of Good Friday. The service will be held in both Arabic and English. Following the service, all are invited to participate in a dinner together (around 8:30 p.m.). If you would like to join for dinner, our CAC friends would appreciate an RSVP by emailing Fakhri or leaving a voicemail at 888-7803.
RESURRECTION SUNDAY: Easter Sunday, April 16
Services: 8:00 a.m., 9:15 a.m., 10:30 a.m., and 11:45 a.m.
Sunday School*: 10:30 a.m.
Celebrate the risen King in the Sanctuary! Bring bells from home to ring with joy every time we sing or say, "Alleluia!" We will also have some bells on site for you to use.
*All children and student ministry Sunday Schools will meet.
