El Salvador Update 2--From the Holy Spirit School to Mr. Donut

Our First Full Day of Ministry

Our Official Welcome from Sports Outreach

Our Official Welcome from Sports Outreach

After a great night’s rest we got our Official Welcome from the Sports Outreach team and then started our day at the Holy Spirit college: a school that equips teachers for their professional degrees.  The team participated in an all-school assembly recognizing and celebrating SOI's donation of sports equipment to enhance the school’s physical education department.

Local fare and National Children’s Day

Our first El Salvadoran pizza experience included an armed guard (see picture at right).  We were never in danger, but a guard was on duty there to keep us safe.

After lunch we headed to a school near the “developing community” we had visited our first afternoon in the country to join in a special National Children's Day celebration.  It featured lots of dancing, games, and sports. Our team participated in or led these activities, and in the next photo you can see some of the distinctive equipment we got to use!

ESL and sharing the encouraging the local church

Next up, we then traveled to a partner church where the team spent about 90 minutes in ESL conversations. Our time there culminated with Susie giving her testimony to the ESL students.

Finally, our day of ministry activities was capped off by a visit to a house church near one of the developing communities where Tom shared a message from Luke 19.

As we headed back to the hotel for the night, we ended a wonderful day of seeing and participating in God’s work with yet another distinctive El Salvadoran treat: a quick dinner at Mister Donut.

On Saturday the team is looking forward to visiting an orphanage, delivering food, and as hosting a soccer tournament.  Thanks for your continued prayers for the team and the people of El Salvador!
