Advent at Third Church: 2016

During the Christian year, the Advent season is about anticipation. We imagine ourselves as the people of Israel, hoping and longing for the coming Messiah. In Advent we also remember that his Kingdom is not yet fully come, so we also anticipate Christ’s coming again to restore all things.

Join us this Advent season as we mark and celebrate Christ's coming with a full complement of activities, special services, and opportunities for worship and fellowship. Click on the links below to find out more information about these offerings.

FAMILY ADVENT CELEBRATION: Sunday, Nov. 27, 10:00 a.m., Fellowship Hall

During the Sunday School hour, parents are invited to bring their children, between the ages of 3 years old through 4th grade, to the Fellowship Hall for a special kickoff to the Advent season. We'll have crafts, worship, and a teaching about prophecy and the promise of Jesus.

LESSONS & CAROLS: Sunday, Dec. 4, 7:00 p.m.

Traditionally, a Lessons and Carols service is a unique opportunity to hear and sing songs that the larger culture mostly ignores. The world needs hope and what better time to sing songs which anticipate the coming of our Lord, Jesus?

Join us for this special interactive service of worshiping and reading scripture together. It is a great opportunity to begin the Advent season reflecting on scripture and praying for God's coming son.

THE ORIGINAL CHRISTMAS STORY: An Advent Class
Sundays, Dec. 4, 11, and 18, 10:00 a.m., Room 217

Join us for this special three week class that will tell the Advent story in an interactive way, as if it were written for a play production. Follow this cast of characters through the Old Testament prophesies and through the story of Jesus' birth.

This unique offering will be hosted in the "Where is God in the Business and Busyness of Life?" class, with the Fusion Fellowship.

WOMEN'S CHRISTMAS DINNER: Tuesday, Dec. 6, 6:30 p.m., Fellowship Hall

Women of Third are invited to bring a potluck dish to join in our Christmas celebration. In addition to sharing a meal together, the program will include worship and stories of service shared by three women. The theme of the evening will be: Brave Enough to Serve...He came not to be served, but to serve.

Registration is free, but we ask that you 1) bring a dish to share, and 2) bring a small gift to donate to Stocking Stuffer Initiative for the Covenant Woods Retirement Home Community.

A CELEBRATION OF CAROLS: Wednesday, Dec. 14
Dinner: 5:45 p.m., Fellowship Hall  |  Program: 7:00 p.m., Sanctuary

We'll begin the evening with a Christmas meal together in the Fellowship Hall. Then, in the Sanctuary, our children's choir, Sanctuary choir, and orchestra will present "A Celebration of Carols," music for the entire family, perfect for the Advent season.  Please register for the dinner.
